Virginia Captain Green, 91, passed away at Franciscan Health Hospital January 5th. She was born December 13, 1925 to the late Arthur Captain and Alice Teunis Captain in Grand Rapids Michigan, and graduated from South High in Grand Rapids. On June 15, 1951, she married Clyde H. Green Jr. and he preceded her in death on November 2, 1999.
Virginia worked at the Herpolshimer's department store in Grand Rapids, Michigan until moving to Lafayette, Indiana in 1965. After working at the L.S. Ayres Budget store, she became manager of the women's department at L.S Ayres in Market Square shopping center for over 20 years. She was a charter member of Heritage UMC, and an active member of United Methodist Women until its closing in 2015. She then attended Delphi UMC.
She enjoyed reading, attending Bible Study, Senior Olympics, volunteering for the Mental Health Alliance, working at the election polls, Home EC. Club, traveling, bingo, friends and staff of Rosewalk Commons, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Her most cherished moments were family trips to Grand Haven State Park.
Virginia is survived by her three children, Sharon (Don) Brothers of Lafayette, Gary (Vicki) Green of Spring, Texas, and Bruce Green of Richmond, IN.; siblings, Robert (Faythe) Captain of Mesa, AZ. Barbara Cooley of Wyoming, MI. and Dennis (Mary)Captain of Grand Rapids, MI. Grandchildren, Jonathan Brothers(Nichole) of Temecula, CA., Ryan (Rochelle) Brothers of Indianapolis, IN., and Lian Green, Houston, TX. Great grandchildren, Catalina Raine Brothers, Ari Grey Brothers, and Aria James Brothers.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 12 at Delphi United Methodist Church, 1796 N. US 421, Delphi, from 10am until her funeral service at 12pm, Rev. Todd Ladd officiating. Burial at Spring Vale Cemetery, Lafayette. Memorial contributions may be made to Delphi United Methodist Women, envelopes available at the church.
