Obituary

Sherry K. Adams Risley, 60, of rural Delphi, passed away unexpectedly, on Wednesday-February 14, 2024, at 9:33pm, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, after a brief illness. Sherry was born on November 3, 1963, in Lafayette, to her parents Billy Ray & Nancy Sue Dishon Adams. Her father preceded her in death. Sherry graduated from Twin Lakes High School in 1982. She received her BS in Education from Purdue University in 2009, and her Master's in Education in 2012 also from Purdue University. Sherry taught Special Education classes, from 2009 to date, at the following schools: Frankfort, Carroll Jr-Sr, Sunny Side, South Newton, and currently at the North White School District. She loved teaching and loved all her students even more. She cared deeply for them and helped them all learn and move on in their lives. Sherry was a member of the Elmwood Church of Christ in Lafayette. She belonged to the Indiana State Teachers Association. Was an avid Purdue University sports fan and loved Chicago Cubs baseball. Sherry loved shoes, Steven Tyler music, and looked forward to her girl trips with her daughter and sister they would take to different destinations. Always lots of laughing and fun, making tons of memories along the way. Sherry was all about her family. She dearly loved her daughter, brother & sister and extended family, and enjoyed spending time with her nieces & nephews. The eternal late sibling of the family, they always joked she'd be late to her own funeral. So, to honor her on her funeral service date, we might start a few minutes late, just for that reason. Keeping in line with her great sense of humor, one thing Sherry didn't like was her daughters' fashion sense. A longstanding joke between the two of them. Her deep seeded faith in Christ, strong family connection that she cared so much about, would light up her face with that beautiful smile she always had. Surviving: daughter-Natasha N. Risley of Lafayette, sister-Kim Hollingsworth of Port Richey, FL, brother-John & Melissa Adams of Brownsburg, mother-Sue Adams of Delphi, 2 nieces, 3 nephews, 4 great nieces, & 3 great nephews survive. Preceded in death by her grandparents. Services: Visitation will be Saturday the 24, from 11am until her funeral service at 2pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Pastor Carl Adams Jr officiating. Burial will be at IOOF Memorial Gardens, Pittsburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
