Obituary

Ronald Douglas Winger, 64, of Flora, passed away at 4:09 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021, at his residence after a long and brave battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 26, 1957, in Lafayette to Herbert and Joyce Ann Hall Winger. His marriage was on June 21, 1980, in Goodland, to Vicki L. Marion; she survives. Doug graduated from Tri County High School in 1976. He was a meat processor and worked for Parrett's Meat Processing in Flora for 15 years where a lifetime friendship started that truly enriched his life. He retired from Beutler Meat Processing of Lafayette, where he worked for 14 years. Before moving to Flora, Doug worked at Heinold Hog Market in Goodland and Burlington. He and Vicki were long-time and very active members of the Flora First Christian Church. He taught Sunday School for the junior high and they were involved with the youth ministry for many years. He was an elder of the church and a former chairman of the church board and the mission committee. Doug was a member and past president of the Flora Lions Club and served as chairman of the ice cream trailer for many years. He received the Melvin Jones Award and the Pete Award from the Lions Club. He volunteered at the Food Pantry. Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering with anything mechanical, yard work and just being outdoors. He also enjoyed watching college basketball and football. If Doug saw a need, he tried to fulfill that need no matter who you were; his passion was to serve others. Doug's favorite holiday was Thanksgiving. He loved to prepare that meal for his family and friends. He dearly loved his wife and extended family and enjoyed being together for any reason. Doug had a deep seeded faith in the good Lord. Our loss is his gain as he is home in heaven. Surviving with his wife are a sister, Sandra Harmon (Dennis) of Brook; a brother, Michael Winger (Nancy) of Lafayette; and a sister & brother in law, Tammy Brummett (Tim); four nieces; three nephews; six great-nephews; and seven great-nieces.He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be Saturday from 11am until his funeral service at 2pm at the Flora First Christian Church with Pastor Ben Lantzer officiating. Burial at Asbury Cemetery, Burlington Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carroll County Cancer Association or the Flora First Christian Church; envelopes for both will be available at the church.
