Obituary

Robert John “Bert” Stevens, 61, of Delphi, passed away Tuesday-August 18, 2026, at 9:16pm, at his home, after a brief battle with cancer. Bert was born on December 11, 1964, at a U.S. Air Force Hospital in San Pablo, Seville, Spain, to the late John & Nancy Pearson Stevens. He married Debra A. Gainey in Delphi, on January 7, 1991, and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2003. Bert was a 1983 graduate of Delphi Community High School and received his associate degree in computer science from Ivy Tech in Lafayette. He worked at the former Peters-Revington Furniture Factory in Delphi and was a foreman there for many years until they closed. He currently worked for Carroll-White REMC in Monticello as a computer tech, for the last 10 years. Bert was a U.S. Army Veteran, was stationed at Fort Benning Georgia, and after being honorably discharged from the Army he enlisted in the Indiana National Guard, 293 Infantry Division in Delphi, serving for 13 years total. Bert was a member of the Delphi Christian Church, where he was an Elder, Deacon, and trustee. He formerly belonged to the Delphi Lions Club, enjoyed shopping for anything, he never met a stranger, and would gladly have a conversation with those he encountered. He enjoyed music and playing his guitar. Family was everything to him and he dearly loved his daughters and grandchildren and extended family and many friends. Surviving: daughter-Micah N. Stevens fiancé Robert James of Flora, daughter-Charity R. Stevens & Jaxton Craig of Delphi, daughter-Ashley N. Hughes Stevens of Delphi, grandchildren: Oakley, Colten, Annabell, Isabell. Brother-Ron & Penny Stevens of Delphi, brother-Roger & Mary Ellen Stevens of Wartrace, TN, brother-Rick & Renea Stevens of Scottsville, KY, sister-Kathy Stevens of Monticello. Preceded in death by a sister Kandy. Services: A receiving time will be Saturday-August 22, 2026, from 3pm until his memorial service at 5pm at the Delphi Christian Church, 315 E. Main St., Delphi, IN 46923, Pastor Bob Duke officiating. Private family internment. Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi, is assisting the family with arrangements.
