Obituary

Cancer did not win. Phil won. He is in paradise with his Heavenly Father. A life-long resident and
farmer of Carroll County, Robert Phillip "Phil" Maxwell was born November 21, 1952, to Robert
M. & Joan Patton Maxwell. Phil died November 18, 2023, comfortable at his home, surrounded by
family. He graduated in the first class of the 'new" Delphi Community High School 1971 and attended Vincennes University where he was a "Fine 29" member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. On a rainy November night in 1972, he met his
future wife, Teresa Ann Jervis. She wanted their wedding to be in November, but ever the romantic farmer, he offered "two
weeks between hay and silage" for a honeymoon, so they married on August 17, 1975. Together they farmed, mostly in Tippecanoe Township. They are the third generation to live on the family farm and Phil farmed some of the same ground with his sons, Dad and Granddads. Phil was a no-till farmer and enjoyed improving the soil. Phil & Teresa did enjoy working together,
teaching their children and grandchildren how to run equipment, working with youth baling straw and selling straw on the honor system.
Phil and family enjoyed traveling. Over the years he was able to visit 49 states with family and friends. A favorite family trip was in 1996, their family of six, 18 days in a minivan, 6,000 miles through the Pacific Northwest and many National Parks. Phil and Teresa had traveled to all but Hawaii together. In celebration of their 40th Anniversary, they spent the month of August 2015
driving to Seattle, enjoyed a water and land cruise of Alaska, continued their drive through Utah to Las Vegas, Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon with a helicopter tour, before a return drive home. In 2023, they were to enjoy a Mediterranean Cruise to Italy, Greece and Malta with a group of friends, but Teresa's illness brought them home early with help of David and Karen. With Dairyland Seeds they were able to travel with their "seedy friends" to many Caribbean resorts in the winter which they enjoyed along with many memorable, fun trips with friends. Trips were also taken with grandchildren. A favorite one was going up to the top of the Gateway Arch, St. Louis. They liked to say their bucket list was short, but their memories were wonderful. Phil is survived by wife, Teresa, 3 sons: Rob & Jennifer; Jared; and David & Amanda; and daughter Karen & Brian Clawson and their eight favorite grandchildren: Brasen, Ethan, Taylor, Ian, Eva, Luke, Savannah and Isla. They enjoyed spending time with their children as youth and liked them even better as adults and felt the same would be true with their grandchildren. Phil is also survived by a favorite brother-in-law, Clarence & Sandi Jervis, Florida; brother-in-law, Carroll & Beverly Jervis, six nephews and three nieces, sister, Susan (Tom) Freeman. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Allen Lee, his parents Bob & Joan Maxwell and in-laws, Byron & Evelyn Jervis, and his brother-in-law & sister-in-law Marvin & Connie Jervis. Phil joined Delphi United Methodist Church as a youth and attended until 2012 when he began attending Camden UMC. He was a member of IOOF #28 and Carroll County Historical Society. The Maxwell's tried to live their lives and dealings with others by the Golden Rule. Memorial donations may be made to Camden United Methodist Church, Carroll County Historical Society, PO Box 277, Delphi, IN 46923, or the Carroll County Food Pantry, PO Box 152, Flora, IN 46929. Services: Visitation will be Friday the 24th, from 3pm to 8pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. His funeral service will be Saturday the 25th, there, at 11am, Pastor Larry Zehring & Joe Klaus officiating. Burial will be at IOOF Memorial Gardens, Pittsburg.
