Robert R. Mears, 70, of rural Chalmers, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday-January 28, 2023, at 4:18pm. He was born December 4, 1952, in Anchorage, Alaska, to the late Kenneth & Ruth Gushwa Mears. He married Deidre J. "Dee" DeBoy at the Yeoman United Methodist Church, on July 6, 1985, and she survives. Robert was a 1971 graduate of Frontier High School. He farmed with his dad and then on his own in Big Creek Township, White County for many years. He then worked for the Howard & Sons Feed Mill in Monon for several years, then at the former United Feeds in Brookston, and then for the White County Highway Department for over 10 years, retiring in 2014 from there. He belonged to the Young Farmers Association. He loved attending his grandchildren's sporting and school functions. His family always looked forward to their yearly family vacation, taking them on many adventures. He enjoyed boating, being outside on his farm, yardwork, and took great pride and care of his yard, keeping everything mowed just right. Robert dearly loved his family. They were everything to him. He enjoyed the family gatherings they would share.
Surviving: wife-Dee J. Mears of Chalmers, daughter-Kandie & Derek Newton of West Lafayette, son-Andie & Jill Mears of Brookston, son-Jeremie & Stephanie Mears of Monticello, stepson-Ryan & Casey Toby of Delphi, sister-Cindy & Rick Wasson of Monticello, sister-Rosemary Mears of Lorton, VA, sister-Jennifer Pritts of Burnettsville, stepsister-Marilyn Shultheis of Delphi, stepsister-Sharon & Bob Dewing of Kentland. 17 grandchildren survive. He was preceded in death by his stepfather Charles Shultheis, a brother-in-law Mark A. Pritts. Services: Visitation will be Thursday from 11am until his funeral service at 2pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Pastor Brad Stroetz & Derek Newton officiating. Entombment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery, Lafayette. Memorial contributions may be made to the White County Food Pantry, envelopes available at the funeral home.
