Obituary

Richard "Rick" R. Windell, Jr., 51, of Delphi, Indiana unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. He was born on December 13, 1969, in New Albany, Indiana to Richard ("Rick") R. Windell, Sr., and Esther ("Polly") Windell. Rick graduated from Peru High School in 1988. He served in the U.S. Military for six years and worked at Frito Lay for 27 years.

Rick was above all a family man, who lived his life for his wife and children. He never failed to tell anyone who would listen how immensely proud he was of his kids. Rick laughed hard, and he loved harder. While his smile could light up a room, his laughter could fill it to the brim.

Some of his favorite things to do included tediously mowing the yard into perfect, diagonal lines, watching sports (not partaking), and striking up a conversation with every single person he met. Rick loved being surrounded by his friends and those he loved, whether it be at the Brick, in Florida at the Outrigger, or under the Friday night lights. He loved every dog he always said the family couldn't have, but always caved to, particularly his Joey and his Chloe.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Angela D. Windell of Delphi, his daughter and son-in-law Payton E. Windell and Christopher D. Bond of Chicago, Illinois, his son Richard ("Ricky") R. Windell, III (partner, Michelle Stahl) of Fishers, Indiana, and his son Weston C. Windell of Delphi. Rick is also survived by his parents, Rick and Polly of Delphi, sister Anji Kemp of Delphi, brother Robert A. Windell (Letha Tran) of San Jose, California, his in-laws Charles and Fay Wolf of Camden, his brother-in-law Jason (Wendy) Wolf of West Lafayette, Indiana. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews who he cared for deeply, Shawneci Windell and Braden Kemp, Jaiden, Mila, and Alton Windell, Morgan, Cody, and Maren Wetli, Gavin and Gillian Wolf, Caleigh Wolf, and Cameron Wolf, Cassie Kemp (Braylee & Harmony), and Tyler Kemp (Liam). There are so many others who he loved deeply, and cared for immensely. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Samuel M. Kemp, paternal grandparents George R. Windell and Betty Lucille Webber, and maternal grandparents Walter and Mildred Gibson. One of Rick's greatest joys was watching his children participate in sports. As such, the family requests contributions be made to the Delphi Oracle Athletic Boosters in lieu of flowers.

Services:  Visitation will be Monday from 3pm to 8pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi.
