Raymond F
Zink
March 24, 1929 – November 16, 2023
Raymond F. Zink, 94, of Delphi, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 1:20am, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Assisted Living in Delphi. Raymond was born March 24, 1929, to the late Raymond J. & Melinda Plante Zink in Oxford. His marriage was to Frances E. Custer in Fowler, on April 26, 1952, and she preceded him in death on July 8, 2014. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1948, and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Okada, Japan, from 1952 to 1954. He then came back to Benton County and started farming with his family. He moved to Carroll County in 1959 after purchasing their farm near Delphi, and continued grain farming, raising cattle, and hogs. He retired from the day-to-day operations of the farm in 1992 but didn't fully retire until 2003. He was always available to oversee a project or offer helpful advice. He was mentioned in a farming article once about being very progressive and forward thinking in how he no-till planted, tilled his ground, and had his vision of how that year would be laid out. He was a true problem solver, especially when it came to agriculture, and how he ran his farm. Raymond had a high moral character and an extremely good work ethic. He was always generous with what the good Lord provided for him and his family. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi. He served as a trustee on the Delphi Community School Board from 1986 to 1994. He was on the board of directors for Production Credit & Farm Bureau Co-Op for many years. He and his wife were Tippecanoe Township Triumph 4-H leaders for many years, mentoring kids with their projects and animals. Raymond's greatest joy was spending time with his family, whom he dearly loved, and supporting his grandchildren in all their endeavors. He endearingly called his grandchildren 'George' which was a nickname he had bestowed teasingly on them all. Surviving: daughter-Randa & David Hoover of Milford, son-Harold & Beth Zink of Delphi, daughter-Teresa J. Lohrman of Delphi, son-Jon & Kathy Zink of Delphi, sister-Mary Bonner of Lafayette. 14 grandchildren & 18 great grandchildren survive. He was preceded in death by a grandson Bradley Hoover, sister & brother-in-law Eleanor & Myron Laffoon, a brother-in-law Albert Bonner. Services: Visitation will be Monday from 4pm to 730pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. A rosary will be said at 730pm on Monday. Funeral mass will be Tuesday at 11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi, Fr. Chris Miller officiating. Burial at IOOF Memorial Gardens, Pittsburg. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to Carroll County 4-H, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
