Obituary

Phyllis Jean Hughes Hildebrandt, 91, of Delphi, died Thursday-Dec 14, at 9pm at her daughters home, after a brief illness. She was born Aug 19, 1926 in Camden, to the late Archie Earl & Mary Magdalene Ward Hughes. Her marriage was to Charles E. Hildebrandt in Camden, on June 16, 1951, and he preceded her in death on May 23, 2004. She was a 1944 graduate of Camden High School. Her first job was as a nanny for Donnabelle & Robert Seiber for 4 years, then she worked for the Carroll Telephone Co. for 4 years, then she was the office manager for Dr. John Byrne, then she worked for Dr Eldon E. Baker, & Dr T. Neal Petry in their family practice, assisting the doctor's and running the office. She worked a total of 33 years for the doctor's. She joined the Delphi United Methodist Church in 1954, and was active in helping with the Rotary Meal, for 33 years. She was a charter & board member of the Carroll County Cancer Association for over 50 years, helping with the scholarship committee for our local students and the Purdue Cancer Research graduate program. She enjoyed sewing, and loved chocolate. She dearly loved her family and many close friends, and especially watching her grand & great grandchildren. Surviving: daughter-Patti Jo "PJ" & Jeff Everett of Delphi; niece-Susie Manahan of Palm Springs, CA; grandchildren: Charles Matthew Sturdivant, Dustin & Kyle Everett, step grandchildren-Riannon Porter, Jeremy Everett, great grandchildren-Aubrey, Bradley, Darryen, Haley, Kayden, Hannah, Merle, Rylan, Marissa, Lily, Erie; sisters-Ann & Phil Rogers of Terre Haute, Jo Powell of Mooresville, Mary Ellen & Roger Conen of El Paso, TX; sister in law Phyllis J. Hildebrand of Lafayette; brother in law-Joe & Delores Hildebrandt of Delphi; preceded in death by a brother Robert, sister Esther Stipp, nephew Tom Stipp; & brother's & sisters in law. Services: Friends may call Tuesday from 11am until her funeral service at 1pm at the Union Center (former Delphi United Methodist Church, 118 N. Union St.) Rev Todd Ladd officiating, burial at Masonic Cemetery, Delphi. Memorial contributions to the Carroll Co. Cancer Assoc., envelopes available there.
