Obituary


Mr. Melvin L. Victor, of Delphi, Indiana, born on March 27, 1929 in Monon, Indiana, to the late Alna (Peg) (Ford) Victor and the late L.H. (Sonny) Victor, passed away at age 89 on August 31, 2018 in Lafayette, Indiana. Melvin graduated from Forest High School in 1947 where he played basketball and softball. From 1951 to 1955, Melvin honorably served in the Air Force, during the Korean War.  He was based in Fort Worth, Texas where he attained the rank of Staff Sargent. Melvin was the loving husband of Maxine J (Zinn) Victor.  Melvin and Maxine were married on September 12, 1948 at the Radnor United Methodist Church where they continue to be members.  The couple was married for almost 70 years.  Melvin worked at Smith Dairy in Delphi, Alcoa in Lafayette, and  finished his 26 year career in sales and design at Zinn's kitchen where he retired in 1991.  Melvin was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold (Irene) Victor and Robert (Jeanette) Victor. Melvin is survived by his sons, Mark (Sue) Victor and Max Victor; sister, Barbara (Jerome) Gagnon; grandchildren, K.C. (Kinsie) Victor, Kelsey (Ben) Lehman, Kiley (Daniel) Collins, and Skylar Victor; and great-grandchildren, Karson Victor, Ryan Lehman, Kambri Victor, and Jack Lehman. Melvin was a member of Odd Fellows Lodge #28, was in two different card clubs, a former Mason, and a Whirley Twirler Square Dance Club Member. Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, basketball, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.  Melvin and Maxine wintered for 27 years in Sarasota.  Services: Friends may call Wednesday from 5pm-8pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Funeral service there Thursday at 11am, Rev. Ed Selvidge officiating. Burial at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora. Military Rites by the Carroll County Honor Guard.
