Mary Jo Rockhill Hughes, 86, of Monticello, died Fri-June 23, 2017 at 5:45pm, at Monticello Healthcare. She had been a resident there for 2 1/2 months. She was born Mar 13, 1931 in Rockfield, to the late Russell & Sarah Ruth Mullendore Rockhill. Her marriage was to Merrill D. Hughes at the Hickory Grove Parsonage, on Oct 22, 1949, and he preceded her in death on Apr 26, 2013. She was a 1949 graduate of Monticello High School. She was a homemaker, and helped her husband on their family farm. They lived for many years on Lake Freeman, and she moved to Monticello in 2014. She was a member of the Yeoman United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, and attended the Delphi United Methodist Church also. She formerly belonged to the Psi Iota Xi Sorority. She enjoyed ceramics, needlework, sewing, china & oil painting. She loved to host family meals and gatherings, as well as family reunions. She was active with 4-H, and home ec club. Her family was everything to her, and she dearly loved them all. Surviving: daughters-Kay & Dave Martin of Burrows, Joyce & Dale Ehlerding of Fort Wayne; sons-Allen Hughes fiancé Brenda Thompson of Bringhurst, Kenneth & Rita Hughes on Monon; brothers-Dale "Gene" Rockhill of Monticello, William "Ed" Rockhill of Lafayette; 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by an infant son, 1 sister. Services: Friends may call Sunday July 2, 2017 from 3pm-6pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Committal service will be Sat-July 8, 2017 at 2pm at Camden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart or Carroll County Cancer Associations, envelopes available at the funeral home.
