Marilyn T.
Parsons Berto
March 23, 1924 – January 12, 2024
Marilyn T. Parsons Berto, 99, of Delphi, Indiana, passed away on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, at 4:54 p.m. at her daughter Terrie's home in Lawrenceville, Georgia. She will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and pet parent; for her incredible faith, warmth, kindness and spunk; and for her quest to live life to the fullest and "be well and be happy." Marilyn was born on March 23, 1924, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to the late George S. Parsons and Olive Wilson Parsons. She graduated from Western Michigan Training School in 1942 and graduated from Western Michigan Teachers College in 1944 with a B.S. in education. As a young woman, she worked at and managed a jewelry store in Kalamazoo and worked in administration at the Orlando Army Air Force Base. Marilyn married the love of her life, Anthony G. ("Tony") Berto, in Otsego, Michigan, on Jan. 24, 1948, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 21, 2014. When she and Tony started their family, she was able to be home with their four daughters: Michele, Kim, Cherie and Terrie. Marilyn was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi, the national philanthropic sorority Psi Iota Xi and the Elks Club. She proudly supported her husband's career as a renowned coach and teacher at Delphi Community High School and loved cheering for Delphi Oracles athletics. She also loved watching and rooting for Purdue football. Marilyn was an avid fan of golf and played in the women's golf league at the Carroll County Country Club for many years. She and Tony enjoyed hosting their close friends for dinner and games of Euchre, and they wintered for many years in Bradenton and Bonita Springs, Florida. Marilyn enjoyed gardening, loved animals of all kinds and always supported her local humane society. Marilyn was always up for an adventure, and over the past few years she was able to visit places she had long dreamed of seeing, including the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina; Savannah and Hilton Head, South Carolina; and the beach. She enjoyed going to pet-friendly restaurants, helping with her daughter's pet care business and listening to hymns and Christian music. Her faith in God grew stronger and stronger as she neared 100 years old. She loved life and never stopped wanting to "go, go, go." Marilyn's greatest love of all was for her family. She cared dearly for them and enjoyed being together for any occasion – they were her life. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Cherie Brummett, son-in-law Brad Brummett and brother Bob. She is survived by her children Michele Dorsey, Kim (Pat) Wright and Terrie Berto; grandchildren Grant (Renee) Dorsey, Jamie (Scott) Spitznagle, Chase Brummett, Kara (Dan) Klein and Amanda Wright (Nick Herms); and great grandchildren Trayven Brummett, Avery and Weston Spitznagle, Pierce Dorsey, Noah and Dylan Herms and Teddy and Judy Klein. Marilyn leaves behind a legacy of love not only for her family, but for her friends as well. She was deeply grateful for her "special angel friends" Jane Miller, Sally and Bob Fellman, Wendy and Chris Stubbs, Linda and Mark Barnard, Sue and Bill Jargstorf and so many others who held her dearly in their hearts – you all filled hers with joy. Services: Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi, Indiana. A graveside service will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Delphi, with Father Chris Miller officiating.
