Larry Joe Yerkes, 82, of Camden, passed away Wednesday-September 29, 2021, at 4:15pm at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi. He had been in failing health the past year, and a resident there since May. He was born July 15, 1939 in Logansport, to the late Lloyd & Marcella Rupley Yerkes. His marriage was to Patsy D. Harris on August 31, 1991 at the Radnor United Methodist Church, and she survives. He was a 1954 graduate of Camden High School. He drove a semi for Yerkes Trucking in Camden for 42 years hauling livestock. He then went to work for Yeager and Sullivan near Camden, hauling livestock for them for several years. And he retired form Indiana Packers Corp in Delphi, where he worked for 10 years. He was a member of the Camden United Methodist Church. He enjoyed watching and supporting IU basketball, and the Tennessee Vol's football team's. He loved auto racing, especially the Indianapolis 500, which he attended for many consecutive years. He liked watching old TV westerns and pro wrestling. He loved the Christmas holiday season, especially driving around looking at all the Christmas lights. He and his wife enjoyed sitting on their porch, watching people go by, and interacting with his many neighbors and friends. He loved his cat Tennessee. His greatest joy was his family. He loved them so much, and spending time together.
Surviving: wife-Pasty D. Yerkes of Camden; son-John & Nichole Perkins of Auburn, AL; 2 granddaughters-Cheyenne & Sydney Perkins; brother-Steve & Fran Yerkes of Logansport; and Larry's children Scott & Lana, and 2 grandson's. Services: Visitation will be Monday from 5pm to 8pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Funeral service there Tuesday at 11am, Rev. Nord Zootman officiating. Burial at Zion Cemetery, rural Flora.
