Obituary

Juanita E. Baker Whitaker, 92, of Monticello, passed away Saturday-August 17, 2024, at 10:45pm, at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. She was residing at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello for the past year and a half. Juanita was born on September 17, 1931, in Tazewell, TN, to the late Joe & Monnie Mae Long Baker. Her marriage was to Virgil J. Whitaker in Tazewell, on December 25, 1951, and he preceded her in death on January 9, 2005. Juanita attended Gibson Hall School in Tazewell. She worked at Indiana Beach in Monticello for a couple of years, then for Bryan Manufacturing in Monticello for over 10 years and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Colburn Road Baptist Church, a devout Christian who loved to share her faith in Jesus with her family and friends. She loved to sew and made clothing for her family and friends. She babysat for close friends and neighbors and loved to cook and bake and share her goodies with those around her. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, gardening, and her many flower gardens around her home. Her greatest love was for her family. She loved her children and her many grandchildren and extended family and enjoyed having them altogether for any occasion. Surviving: SON-Dennis E. Whitaker of Monticello, daughter-Sandra & Douglas Watkins of Monticello, sister-Ann & Donald "Hawk" Myers of Tazewell, TN, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren survive. Preceded in death by 3 sisters Blanch, Barbara & Betty, a brother Harold, and a nephew Scott. Services: Visitation is Wednesday at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi, from 5pm to 8pm. Then visitation and funeral service will be held Saturday at Coffey Funeral Home in Tazewell, TN. Viewing Saturday from 11am until her funeral service at 1pm at the funeral home. Burial at Liberty Church Cemetery. Pastor Brian O'Dell officiating. Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi, is assisting the family with arrangements.
