"Larry" Stonebraker
September 9, 1940 – December 21, 2022
James Lawrence "Larry" Stonebraker, 82, of Brookston, passed away Wednesday-December 21, 2022, at 4:37am, surrounded by his loving family, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, after a brief illness. He was born September 9, 1940, in LaPorte, to the late James Leroy & Lucille Spenner Stonebraker. His marriage was to Gladys Dobson in Tefft, on September 1, 1962, and she survives. Larry was a 1958 graduate of the former Tefft High School. A Veteran, he served 3 years in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Germany. As a young man, he enjoyed growing up on the Kankakee River, and the many adventures he had with his friends there. He was baptized and raised in the All-Saints Catholic Church in San Pierre. Larry worked for UPS in Lafayette for 30 years, his delivery route was Rensselaer, and the surrounding communities, he retired in 1993. He was a former member of the Brookston Lions Club, a fan of Purdue University sports, and the Chicago Bears. He loved going to car shows, checking out the antiques and 60-70's muscle cars. He enjoyed fishing, and his yearly fishing trip to Minnesota with his friends. He was an avid reader and enjoyed history. He and his wife were able to winter in Panama City Beach, FL, for 25 years, always looking forward to the sunshine and white sandy beaches. He was very fond of his daughter's dog Basil. Larry dearly loved his family and being with them for any occasion always brought a smile to his face. That was his life. Surviving: wife-Gladys Stonebraker of Brookston, daughter-Kimberly & Gary Welsh of Knox, son-James Gregory "Greg" & Julie Stonebraker of Cicero, daughter-Angela D. "Angie" Brown of Brookston, sister-Carol Risner of San Pierre, brother-Doug Stonebraker of Wanatah, sister-Janet & Louie Kupec of Brookville, FL, grandchildren: Noah Welsh, Robby Welsh & Robin King, McKenna & Andy Shuler, James Stonebraker & Julia Lovig, great grandchildren: Holden & Rory Shuler. Services: A memorial service to celebrate Larry's life will be Saturday-January 7, 2023, at 11:00am, at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Pastor Thurman Ritchie officiating.
