Obituary

James F. "Jim" Yates, 84, of Delphi, passed away Wednesday-September 1, 2021 at 5:46pm at his home. He had battled cancer for the past 4 years, and has been in declining health the past month. He was born November 30, 1936 in Carroll County, IN, to the late Lee & Eva Delong Yates. He married Delores A. Johns in Delphi, on February 19, 1955, and she survives. He attended the Monroe Street Delphi High School. He worked for 39 years at the former Gerber-Globe Valve Factory in Delphi, retiring in 1997. He then helped his son with construction projects for several years. He was a member of the Living Faith Church of the Brethren. He liked to hunt and trap, and enjoyed being outdoors. He loved yard work, and keeping his house looking perfect, and always had a big garden to share its produce with his family and neighbors. He liked restoring and working on tractors, especially older Oliver's and Ford's. He liked going to tractor and horse pulls, and raised horses with his daughters. He and his family always enjoyed their yearly vacation, and all the adventures that took place while getting there and back, making many lasting memories. He loved playing cards, and was an avid Indiana University Basketball fan. He and his wife wintered in Sebring, FL, for the past 16 years. They both enjoyed attending their grandchildren's sporting and school functions. He dearly loved his wife and children, grand & great grandchildren, extended family and many friends. Surviving: wife-Delores A. Yates of Delphi; daughters-Terri & Brad German of Delphi, Tina & Kevin Isaacs of Delphi, Trica M. Hatke of Camden, and Tammie & Don Paul of Logansport; son-Toby & Lynn Yates of Flora; brother-Wayne & Juanita Yates of Camden; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren survive. Preceded in death by 3 brother's and 3 sister's. Services: Visitation will be Wednesday-September 8, from 11am until his funeral service at 2pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Pastor Brad Burton officiating. Burial at Masonic Cemetery, Delphi. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carroll County Cancer Association.
