Obituary

James R. "Jim" McDonald, 77, of Delphi, passed away Monday-April 26, 2021 at 5:25pm at IU Health Arnett Hospital after a brief illness. He was born October 16, 1943 in Lafayette, to the late James M. & Delores Smith McDonald. His marriage was to Mary A. Remaly in Delphi on March 17, 1995, and she survives. He graduated from the former Jefferson High School in Clinton County in 1961, and received his accounting degree from Indiana University in Bloomington in 1965.  He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam in transportation, and attained the rank of Lieutenant. He then served in the Indiana National Guard reserves as a logistics officer of the 300th and Service Battalion, Lafayette, IN, with the rank of Major. He received the Army Commendation Medal, for his service and time in the Reserve Army.
He worked at the former Great Lakes Chemical Co., West Lafayette, for 20 years, then for Indiana Packers Corp., Delphi, for 20 years, retiring from there.
He was a member of the Living Faith Church of the Brethren near Flora, very active in missions. He and his wife participated in many mission trips in the U.S. and Mexico, always willing to share the gospel of Jesus to those they were serving. He enjoyed playing bridge card games, and was in many tournaments. He loved watching movies, participating in fantasy football, enjoyed golfing, visiting deferent city parks, and loved the annual trips to amusement parks, where he and his family would ride all the roller coasters. He dearly loved his family and spending time with them. Surviving: wife-Mary A. McDonald of Delphi; daughter-Janet & Conrad Kliewer of West Lafayette; stepson-Nathan S. Best of Delphi; sister-Judy & Byron Butler of Lafayette; 5 grandchildren & 2 step grandchildren; 1 step great granddaughter survives. Preceded in death by a son James M. McDonald; his twin sister Janet McDonald. Services: visitation will be Saturday from 1pm until his funeral service at 3pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Pastor Guy Studebaker officiating. Private family interment. Memorial contributions may be made to the Living Faith Church of the Brethren, envelopes available at the funeral home.
