Irene Lange Hawkins, 95, of Delphi, died Tues.-Feb. 17, 2015 at 4:27pm at Monticello Healthcare. She was born and raised in TX, and moved from Abilene to Delphi in 2012 to be closer to her daughter. She was born Aug. 13, 1919 in Taylor, TX, to the late Otto & Margaret Schwartz Lange. Her first marriage was to Travis A. Barclay in TX, and he preceded her in death. She then married Truett L. Hawkins in TX, and he preceded her in death. She graduated from Thrall High School in Thrall, TX, and received her bookkeeping degree from Taylor Business School in TX. She was a bookkeeper in the auto industry and medical profession for many years in TX, and lastly worked for the City of Abilene Water Department as their bookkeeper. She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Abilene, and was a member of the women's fellowship of the church, sang in the church choir, enjoyed music and playing the piano by ear. She enjoyed entertaining and was very social and outgoing, loved people and being around her many friends. She enjoyed dressing up, and was very classy, a true Texas Belle. She loved her little dogs, and later in life enjoyed volunteering at local area nursing homes, where she would play BINGO with the residents, and bring them baked goods. Surviving: daughter-Barbara J. Dyer of Delphi; 2 grandsons; 2 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her son-in-law Bill Dyer; a brother and a sister. A celebration of life service will take place Sun.-Mar. 8, 2015 at 5pm at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Delphi. Pastor John Westfall to officiate, private family internment at a later date.
