Herbert C. "Herb" McKnight, 87, of Flora, died Thurs.-Sept. 22, 2016 at 5:20am at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi. He had been a resident there for 5 weeks, and in failing health. He was born Oct. 15, 1928 in Salem, to the late Elmer & Vernie Sullivan McKnight. His marriage was to Virginia R. Disinger, in Delphi, on June 15, 1952, and she survives. They had lived for many years in the Delphi area, and moved to Flora where they lived for 19 years. A 1946 graduate of Brookston High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, stationed at a M.A.S.H. Unit, attaining the rank of Sargent. He worked for the former Clawson Chevrolet in Delphi, then Hubbard Chevrolet in Monticello, he and his wife owned and operated a DX Gas Station in Monticello, then went to work as part's man at DeFouw Chevrolet in Lafayette for 25 years, retiring from there. He was a member of the Living Faith Church of the Brethren, rural Flora. He was a member of the Delphi American Legion Post #75. He enjoyed antique shopping, especially collectibles, glass, and old license plates. He enjoyed sketch art, mainly pencil sketches. He dearly loved his family, and the time they spent together. McKnight of Terre Haute; son-Robert "Bob" & Marilyn McKnight of Flora; sister-Clarice "Liz" Yerk of Chalmers; grandchildren: Krista Foreman; Anthony "Tony" sp. Felicia & Hunter Laing; great grandson: Jericho Bergdorff. Preceded in death by a brother in law Donald Yerk. Services: Friends may call Saturday from 11am until his funeral service at 2pm, at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi.
