Grace E. Downham Deel, 86, of Rockfield, died Thurs.-Nov. 27, 2014 at 1:50pm at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center-Delphi. She had been a resident there for 2 months. She was born Aug. 9, 1928 in Burlington to the late Owen & Marie Edging Downham. Her marriage was to Robert G. Deel in Lafayette on Mar. 20, 1948, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 2010. She graduated in 1946 from Wea High School. Grace was a homemaker, and dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. She never met a stranger and was always willing to help others. She was active in the Rockfield Presbyterian Church, where she was an Elder, and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Rock Creek Home Ec Club, now the Liberty Bell Home Ec Club. She was a member of the former Camden Eastern Star, now Rossville Chapter, a past worthy matron, and was active & held offices at the State level. She was active with the Carroll County Republican Women, a Rock Creek Precinct Committeeman, and worked on many election boards. She was a member of the Camden American Legion Auxiliary, and enjoyed cooking. Surviving: daughter-Barbara & Brad Heath of Delphi; son-George & Donna Deel of Hillsboro; brothers-John & Jean Downham and Jerry & Judy Downham of Lafayette. 6 grandchildren & 15 great grandchildren survive. Preceded in death by a son Larry; 2 brothers Carl & Robert. Services: Friends may call Sunday from 2-6pm at Abbott Funeral Home-Delphi, with a Eastern Star Memorial service prior to calling hours.
