George H. Downham, 85, of rural Deer Creek, died Mon.-Mar. 16, 2015, at 12:55pm, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi. He had been ill 1 week, and had lived on his family farm all of his life. He was born June 5, 1929 in Logansport, to the late Ora & Martha Hall Downham. His marriage was to Elizabeth A. Mears in Delphi, on May 9, 1954, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 11, 2009. He was a 1947 graduate of Deer Creek High School, and a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, from 7-22-1952==4-21-1954. He was a Tech Sergeant in Co. K, 32nd Infantry Artillery. He received the following citations: combat infantry badge, Korean service ribbon, 2 bronze service stars, National Defense service medal, & United Nations service medal. He farmed, raised hogs & cattle all of his life, in Washington Township, Carroll County. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, rural Deer Creek. His family wants to thank his special caregiver Lucy Flora, for her good work and care she provided to their dad. Surviving: daughter-Sara & Steve Clark of Atlanta, IN; sons: Jay & Dena Downham of Lafayette, Joe & Teresa Downham of Fishers. 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren survive. Preceded in death by a son Thomas Kent Downham.
