George D. Carlson, 80, of Lafayette, passed away Sunday-February 11, 2024, at 5:36am, at Mulberry Healthcare Center, where he had resided for a few days. He was born November 3, 1943, in Logansport, to the late George A. & Donna J. Simpson Carlson. His marriage was to Peggy A. Collins in Bringhurst, on May 1, 1965, and she preceded him in death on May 25, 2005. George was a 1962 graduate of South Caston High School. He worked for 40 years at the former Alcoa Plant in Lafayette, as a general mechanic, retiring from there in January of 2006. While living in Bringhurst, he and his family attended the Bringhurst United Methodist Church, and after moving to Lafayette, he attended the Dayton United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Alcoa 25-year club. He enjoyed micro midget auto racing at Lake Cicott, NASCAR & sprint car racing. Loved all sports and enjoyed keeping up on his favorite teams. He and his family enjoyed the many camping trips they did together. He dearly loved his family and spending time with them. Surviving: son-Anthony "Tony" & Carol Carlson of Camden, granddaughter-Rachel M. Carlson of Lafayette, step grandson-Garrett & Lexi Clark of Camden, brother-Jerald "Jerry" & Brenda Carlson of Pace, FL, great grandsons-Rogan & Miller Clark of Camden. Preceded in death by a son Douglas D. Carlson, a sister Beverly. Services: Visitation will be Friday from 4pm to 7pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. His funeral service will be there Saturday at 11am, Rev. Ed Selvidge officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora.
