Freida May Roach Leighty, 89, of Lafayette, passed away Sunday-November 2, 2025, at 9:15pm, at Franciscan East Health Campus in Lafayette. Freida was born on September 12, 1936, in Vincennes, IN, to the late Isaac & Naomi Ridgely Roach. Her marriage was to Gary Phillip Leighty in Henderson, KY, on March 28, 1954, and he preceded her in death on August 15, 2013. Freida attend Vincennes High School. She was a homemaker and helped her husband with his home building business and she enjoyed finishing interiors with painting and wallpaper. She attended Valley View Baptist Church in Flora. She loved being outside doing yard work, planting her many flower beds around her home, and working in her big garden she'd always put out. She loved to share the produce with her family and friends. Freida was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing, IU sports, and the Indianapolis Colts. Family was everything to Freida. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed being with them for any occasion. They were her life. Surviving: daughter-Tammy Shirels of Kokomo, son-Scott Leighty of Michigantown, son-Phil & Judy Leighty of Lafayette. 6 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren survive. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law John Shirels, a daughter-in-law Lori Leighty, 2 brothers Charles & Ray, 2 sisters Mary & Betty. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at the Michigantown Christian Church, 108 W. 2nd St, Michigantown, IN 46057, on December 13, 2025, receiving time 10:30am until her memorial service at 11:30am. The family wishes all in attendance to join them after for a meal and fellowship there. Memorial contributions may be made to your local American Cancer Society.
