Duane L. Simmons, 82, of Delphi, passed away unexpectedly on Friday-May 3, 2024, at 8:51pm, at IUHA Hospital in Lafayette. He was born on April 11, 1942, in Lafayette, to the late Marion & Agnes Witt Simmons. His marriage was to Nancy L. Cheesman in Pittsburg, on June 23, 1963, and she preceded him in death on January 9, 2012. Duane was a 1960 graduate of Jeff High School. He was an Air Force Veteran, serving 20 years, and retired as an E-6, aircraft mechanic and computer technician. He also was in charge of production scheduling for maintenance. He was stationed in Thailand, Hawaii, & Grissom AFB near Bunker Hill. He then took a position with the Monticello Post Office as a letter carrier, and worked there for 15 years, and retired from there. He was a member of the Living Faith Church of the Brethren near Flora. Duane enjoyed coin collecting, tinkering in his garage, repairing old electronics, and restoring old TV's and radio's, gardening, euchre card games, traveling, especially to TN to the Grand Ole Opry, Purdue sports, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Cincinnati Reds. He always attended his children & grandchildren's school and sporting events. He dearly loved his family and enjoyed being with them for any occasion. Surviving: daughter-Deborah & Tim Irelan of Delphi, twin daughters-Deanne L. Hess & David Baer of Monon and Diane & Paul Jones of Monon, son-Brian K. Simmons of Monticello, sister-Carol & Louis Dunn of Nashville, TN, brother-in-law Richard Feaster of Huntsville, AL, 4 grandchildren: Patrick Irelan & Hannah Irelan, Megan Simmons & Ryan Riley, Colton Jones, a step great grandson-Kyson Riley. Preceded in death by a sister Nancy, a son-in-law Russell "Bucky" Hess. Services: The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4pm until his memorial service at 6pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Pastor Ron Brown officiating.
