Obituary

Doyne L. Whitman, 79, of Delphi, passed away at his home on Sunday-March 17, 2024, at 7:30am. Doyne was born on September 9, 1944, in Clinton County, to the late Bill & Mary Campbell Whitman. His marriage was to Anita L. Geiser on May 1, 1982, in Lafayette, and she survives. Doyne was a 1962 graduate of Rossville High School, and received his Associate degree in business from Indiana Business College in 1981. Doyne managed the former Burger Chef & Hardee's restaurants in West Lafayette, near Purdue University campus for several years. He then went to work for USPS in Lafayette, as a mail carrier, then a mail handler, and finally to the maintenance department, working for 39 years there, he was due to retire in April. Doyne was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 11-7-1967 to 9-23-1969, honorably discharged. He was a member of Faith Church near Lafayette, and volunteered in the nursery, and then he and his wife taught the 4- & 5-year-olds Sunday school class for 30 years, and they belonged to the Berean adult bible fellowship at the church. He enjoyed buying and selling cars, especially antique cars, being outside, assisting his wife with yard work and in her garden. He loved to sing and play his guitar, and when they lived near Mulberry, he would go to the healthcare center there and play and sing for the residents the older church hymns he loved so much. He enjoyed going to and watch demolition derby racing, traveling with his wife, and playing euchre in the card club they belonged to for many years with his closest friends. Doyne had a giving heart and would help anyone. Always assisting his wife trying to make life a little easier for her and his family, whom he so dearly loved. Surviving: wife-Anita L. Whitman of Delphi, son-Doyne L. Whitman Jr, sp. Stephenie of Frankfort, grandchildren: Jared & Chantelle Whitman, Shauna Whitman, Ashley & Derrick Williams, Destiny Metzger, Gavin Toro, Christian Metzger, great grandchildren: Callum & Wren Whitman, Luca Toro. Daughter-in-law-Mindy & Jason Walls of Delphi. Preceded in death by a son Darren C. Metzger, an infant brother. Services: The visitation will be Saturday at Faith Church, 5526 SR 26 E., Lafayette, IN 47905, from 1pm until his funeral service there at 2:30pm. Pastor Trey Garner officiating. Burial will be at Musselman Cemetery, near Camden. Carroll County Honor Guard will provide Military Honor's. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Church, envelopes available there.
