Obituary

Doris J. Walters Lake, 87, of rural Flora, passed away Tuesday-August 18, 2026, at 9:57pm, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi. Doris was born on January 28, 1939, in Tippecanoe County, to the late Charles & Gladys Young Walters. She married Gary W. Lake at the Camden Lutheran Church on November 6, 1976, and he survives. Doris graduated from Camden High School in 1957 and received her bookkeeping degree from the former Indiana Business College in Indianapolis. While living in Indianapolis, she worked as a bookkeeper in finance and banking. She then worked at the former ESSEX Wire in Flora for many years and was a homemaker. She was baptized at the Rockfield Presbyterian Church. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and camping at various campgrounds in Indiana. She enjoyed going to flea markets to look around and shop, crocheting, puzzles, and collecting West Moreland glassware. She liked mushroom hunting and always put out a big garden for all to share and then would can the goodies she raised. She dearly loved her family and enjoyed being with them for any occasion. Surviving: husband-Gary W. Lake of Flora, daughter-Joyce & Mitch Edmonds of Rockfield, daughter-Sherry Hart of Monticello, son-Eric Cox & Maxine Smith of West Lafayette, brother-Robert Walters of Delphi, brother-Ron & Judy Walters of Delphi, 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren survive. Preceded in death by a sister Mary Lou, 3 brothers Frank, Jerry, & Richard. Services: Visitation will be Monday-August 24, 2026, from 11am until her funeral service at 1pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Pastor Bruce Hankins officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carroll County Cancer Association, envelopes available at the funeral home.
