Daniel Scott "Dan" Houston, 43, passed away at his home after a long battle with Huntington's Disease, Friday, July 30, 2021 at 10:30am. He was born December 18, 1977, in Lafayette to his late father Daniel K. Houston and his mother Connie Tyrie Houston who survives. He married Jessica L. Jones in Gatlinburg, TN, on June 22, 2010, and she, as his wife and dedicated caregiver, lives on. He attended Jeff High School in Lafayette and received his GED. He was accepted to Purdue University in West Lafayette and graduated with a BS in Management in 2003. He accepted a commission in the U.S. Navy as an Intelligence Officer, a job only granted to 20 applicants out of hundreds in the country every year. After graduating from the 13 week Naval Officer Candidate School which was run by the U.S. Marine Drill Instructors, he served 4 years in the Navy from Nov. 14, 2003 and was honorably discharged on Nov. 30, 2007 having achieved the rank of Lieutenant. As an Intelligence Officer, he was trusted with a top secret security clearance and led over 75 Navy personnel in support of combat operations to protect the lives of many friends, servicemen and women. He spent 2 years overseas supporting combat operations in Iraq and winning the war on terror. He was highly decorated for his organizational skills, an outstanding leader, and an all-around effective officer; he served in Operation Enduring Freedom - Philippines and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dan enjoyed camping, fishing and just being outside. He loved the fourth of July, the fireworks celebrating our great Nation, was an avid reader, and enjoyed WW II history. He collected autographs; he started with sports figures and then, focused on military personnel. He enjoyed 70's and 80's music and was an avid supporter and fan of the Chicago Cubs….always rooting for the underdog...no matter what. Having been decorated for organization, Dan enjoyed cleaning the house and keeping up with what was going on in the world through various news outlets. He dearly loved his wife, Jes, their family, their many friends, and extended family. He was honored and humbled to fight for his beloved Nation. Surviving, wife-Jessica L. Jones of Delphi; sister-Sarah Posey of Chicago; mother-Connie Houston of Fort Wayne; in laws-Jack & Betty Jones of Delphi; niece-Sophia Posey of Chicago; nephew-Nick Posey of Chicago; sister in law-Heather & Phil Reynolds of Lafayette; brother in laws-Brian & Rainey Jones & Erik & Carrie Jones both of Delphi, Tyler Posey of Chicago; 6 nephews and 1 niece. Services are as follows: A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1pm at the IOOF Cemetery, Delphi (next to the golf course) with full military honors by the Carroll County Honor Guard, Chaplain Tom Covington officiating.
