Clara R.
Maddox Oliver
January 24, 1928 – April 23, 2022
Clarabelle (Clara) R (Maddox) Oliver, 94, left this earth April 23, 2022, at 6:45 PM to be with her husband, Robert E. Oliver, who preceded her in death on June 20, 2002.
She was born to Charles and Clara (Milligan) Maddox on January 24, 1928, in Kokomo, IN. Preceding her in death along with her parents are nine brothers and one sister: Ed, Jim, Cleo, Gene, Lewis, Lawrence, Garland, Floyd, and Joe as well as Mary (Maddox) Seagraves. One sister, Lucy (Maddox) Reed, survives.
She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Delphi, IN where her son, Brent (Tammy) Oliver was her Pastor for many, many years. Her oldest son, Clee (Karen) Oliver resides in Kokomo.
She worked outside the home in the early years at Delco Radio until the birth of her first son Clee when she took leave and ultimately quit to raise a family. Later, she worked as an aide in the Dean's Office, Kokomo High School. She never missed a baseball or basketball game where her boys were involved. Family vacations were spent nearly every spring break in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Mom never knew a stranger. Dad and us boys would attempt to guess how many people Mom would strike up conversations with while waiting in line at say Ponderosa Steak House—or for that matter anytime we went out—that she did not know.
She was also very active in her church at First Assembly helping wherever and whenever she could. Some say she was like a bumble bee and outworked those younger than her until her health declined to where she could not keep the pace she once enjoyed.
Surviving along with her two sons, Clara has eight grandchildren, Heather Bostic, South Carolina, Ryan Oliver, Virginia, Dustin (Kelley) Oliver, Delphi, Cassidy (Jeremiah) McCall, Delphi, Ashley Draper, Ezra Stouder, Gabriella Oliver and Marco Oliver (all of Delphi): including 13 great-grandchildren. She also has two stepsons, Bob (Lil) Oliver Jr., Florida and Mike Oliver, Indiana.
Funeral services will be held in Delphi at First Assembly of God Church with her son, Pastor Brent Oliver officiating. Visitation is from 11 AM until 1 PM Wednesday April 27, 2022, with services following at 1 PM.
After the service, she will be taken to Kokomo where burial will be in Albright Cemetery. She will lay, like she slept, beside her husband of nearly 51 years—to his right. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Delphi First Assembly of God Church Youth Project, envelopes available at her service. Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi, is assisting the family with arrangements. To view her obit or send an online condolence to the family, visit: www.abbottfuneralhome.com
