Charles E. Smith, 85 of rural Camden, died Fri.-Dec. 18, 2015 at 10:11pm at IU Health Arnett Hospital-Laf. He was born Dec. 23, 1929 in Meca, to the late Ed Smith and Ruby Williamson Smith Maffett. His marriage was to Carol G. Jones in New Goshen, on April 11, 1953, and she preceded him in death on Mar. 29, 2010. He attended Cayuga High School and received his GED in 1971. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving 3 years during the Korean War. He worked and retired after 30 years at U.S. Aggregates in Delphi, lastly as plant manager. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Delphi, and liked to help keep the church grounds in good shape and building maintenance. He enjoyed his big garden that he shared with his neighborhood and his many fruit trees, and all the good things they provided for him and his family and many friends. Surviving: daughters-Elizabeth & Steven Goodner of Shelbyville, KY, Rebecca & Robert Knott of Flora; sons-Michael Smith of Urbana, OH, Gary & Amanda Smith of Delphi. 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. Preceded by a son James. Services: Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. There will be no service, and private burial will take place at Musselman Cemetery Camden.
