Charles O.
"Chuck" Ziemer
July 4, 1939 – July 18, 2022
Charles O. "Chuck" Ziemer, 83, of Carmel, passed away Monday, July 18, 2022, at 5:45 pm, at Wellbrooke of Westfield, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born July 4, 1939, in Chicago, IL, to the late Dr. Martin & Louise Simon Ziemer. He married Shirley A. Viney at the Flora United Methodist Church on September 1, 1963, and she preceded him in death on November 7, 2018. He graduated from Lutheran High School South in Chicago, IL, in 1957. He received his engineering degree from Purdue University in 1961 and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Indiana University School of Law in 1964. In 1957, his best friend's dad helped him get an internship at Chicago Bridge & Iron, based out of Oak Brook, IL. He was quickly hired as a full-time Engineer. He then transitioned to General Counsel and was ultimately promoted to Senior Vice President of CBI Industries. In retirement, he consulted for several companies, focusing on contractual law. After living in the Chicagoland area and raising his family, he and his wife Shirley moved to Sun City Center, FL, for their golden years, before moving to Shirley's home state of Indiana after she had passed away. While raising their children, he was an active member at Redeemer Lutheran Church of Elmhurst, IL, acting as church treasurer for many years while participating in the church men's club. Very community-minded and always volunteering his time and talents, he was a member of the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce. He was also the President of the Elmhurst Bicycle Club for a time, which was his favorite past-time. He enjoyed helping coach baseball and other sporting teams, as well as accompanying his children on the piano for recitals and solos throughout their schooling. While living in Florida, he and Shirley volunteered for their local squad; she became an EMT, and he drove the ambulance. They attended the Calvary Church in Ruskin, FL, and volunteered at their food pantry and resale shop. He loved late 60's & 70's muscle cars, especially the Corvette. He owned several over the years and worked on them when he had the time. He enjoyed gardening and working around the house with Shirley on the weekends. As a child, he had a dog, but there were always one or two cats as family pets in his home as an adult. He loved cats so much that he would feed and care for several neighborhood strays hanging out at the back door. He dearly loved his wife, and family was everything to him. That was his life, and he enjoyed all the gatherings his wife and children would share. Surviving Sons: Martin W. Ziemer & Victoria Krause of Lisle, IL, and Karl F. Ziemer of Noblesville, IN. Brother-in-law & Sister-in-Law: Charles & Sonja Viney of Bringhurst, IN; Niece: Jennifer & Joe Armstrong; Nephew: Brian & Lacey Viney; Great Nieces & Nephews survive. Services: Visitation will be Wednesday the 27th from 4 pm to 7 pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Funeral service there on Thursday the 28th at 11:00 am, Pastor Shawn Hecksel officiating. Burial at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora.
