Obituary

Carl James "Jim" Powlen, 77, or rural Delphi, died Sun.-Dec. 14, 2014 at 3:37pm at Woodbridge Healthcare in Logansport. He was born Nov. 27, 1937 in Cass County, IN, to the late Byron & Mary Crimmins Powlen. His marriage was to Lois Groninger in Burrows, on Dec. 29, 1962, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 2008. He was a 1956 graduate of Logansport High School; received his BS in 1961 from Ball State University; his masters from Ball State in 1967. He taught for 17 years in Wisconsin & Indiana in the Elementary School's, and was principal for 3 years at Walton Elementary. In 1978 he started working for Delphi Products, and from 1981 until his retirement in 2013, for WLC in Sedalia, selling swine and other agricultural products. He attended the Rockfield Presbyterian Church, and formerly belonged to the Rockfield IOOF Lodge. He formerly belonged to the Delphi Lions Club, and was a member of the Lafayette Indiana Historical Auto Club. He enjoyed playing chess, card games, and raising various animals at his home. Surviving: daughters-Pam & Trent Downey of Medina, OH, Kathy & Jon Zink of Delphi; sons-Brad & Elyce Powlen both of Burrows, Craig & Jenna Powlen of Zionsville; sister-Peggy Rinehart of Kokomo; brother-Pat & Karen Powlen of Burrows. 12 grandchildren survive. Preceded in death by two infant grandsons Mason & Micah Powlen; a brother Russell. Services: friends may call Tuesday from 4-8pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi. Service there Wednesday at 11am, Pastor Jerry Long officiating. Burial at Brown Church Cemetery, Rockfield.
