Brent A
Flory
November 6, 1953 – July 13, 2025
Brent A. Flory, 71, a cherished resident of Delphi, Indiana, passed away peacefully in his home at 12:26am Sunday, July 13, 2025, while surrounded by family. Brent was born on November 6, 1953, to the late Leo L. Flory and Esther "Eileen" (Bowser) Flory in Anderson, Indiana and spent part of his early childhood in West Alexandria, Ohio before moving to Lapel, Indiana where many of his classmates became life-long friends. He graduated from high school in Pendleton, Indiana in 1972. Tragically, Brent lost both of his parents three weeks before graduation in an automobile accident and that defined the rest of his life. Brent's home was the cornerstone of his life. He could always be found working in his shop or garden beside his beloved border collies or enjoying the company of family and friends. Brent was so proud of his children and loved to tell anyone that would listen to their accomplishments. Brent loved to talk and entertain. He never knew a stranger. Dogs were also a big part of Brent's life. He was profoundly grateful for Clancy's Dream Border Collie Rescue. In his later years, Brent found a home amongst Victory in Christ Fellowship Church in Flora, and he had a faith in God that saw him through his final moments. Brent was full of zeal and passion for everything he did. He was a man of innumerable talents. He was a builder, farmer, and an agricultural consultant for many years. He loved the soil sciences and had a laboratory where he did soil testing and developed fertilizer formulas. He was an avid reader and self-taught entrepreneur. Brent was the founder and owner of Freedom Lawns, from 1989 until 2014. It grew into a large and thriving business where his wife and children worked with him many years. For the past ten years, Brent discovered a new passion for restoring old tractors to showroom quality. He loved spending time in his shop and was a mechanical genius who could fix almost anything he touched. He was visited in his shop regularly by friends and sought after for technical advice. Brent had many other talents and hobbies. He was an instrument rated pilot and owned a 1989 Beechcraft Sundowner that he loved to fly all over the U.S. He later became a board member for the Delphi Municipal Airport until his passing. Brent loved traveling across the country, whether it was riding on his motorcycles or driving to Cross Creek in Arcadia, Florida in his RV with his wife, Marilyn. He developed a passion for pickleball while in Florida. Brent was an avid fan of Bluegrass music and spent many years playing his guitar, mandolin, and harmonicas in various Bluegrass groups. He was a past president and member of Delphi Lions Club for 15 years. Brent enjoyed long-distance running and earned countless awards from road races and marathons. He was a cross-country coach at Delphi Community Schools for many years and could often be found running on the country roads of Delphi with his children or at Lambert Field House at Purdue where he later worked as a referee for Purdue Track and Field. Brent is survived by his spouse of 49 years, Marilyn (Kinzie) Flory, his five children, Sarah Flory, Nathan Flory and Toni Flaspeter, William Flory, Philip and Ilise Flory, and Gail Flory, his three sisters, Brenda Wargo, Jennie (James) Riffey, Jewel (Scott) Meador, his four grandchildren, Zoe, Jacob, Arya, Micaiah, and his two beloved border collies, Jeter and Ranger. Brent was preceded in death by his brother in-law Steven Wargo and nephew Benjamin. Services: Visitation will be Tuesday-July 15, 2025, from 11am until his funeral service at 2pm at Victory in Christ Fellowship Church, 115 N. Washington St., Flora, IN 46929. Pastor Greg Brenneman officiating. Burial will be at North Fork Church Cemetery, Pyrmont.
