Betty K. (Shideler) Galbreth, 94 passed, in Sarasota FL on Wednesday April 27, 2016. She was born on September 19, 1921 in Logansport, IN to Hazel and Elmer Shideler. She was a resident of Indianapolis, IN and Sarasota, FL the last 27 years, enjoying her home and friends at The Buckingham Club.
Betty was married to James R. Galbreth for 58 years, until his passing in October, 1999. She was also preceded by brothers James and Robert Shideler.
A lifelong learner, Betty graduated from Logansport, IN High School. She was an administrative assistant for a doctor, an attorney and a Russian professor. She retired from the Defense Information School at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, IN after working there from 1964-1989.
She loved to travel, and had visited many countries, including England, Canada, Scotland, Wales, Germany, China, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, and Morocco. Her favorite hobbies were painting and reading. Betty's motto was if it was worth doing, do it right.
She was an amazing person, who lived life to its fullest. She enjoyed the many opportunities to be with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, especially at Christmas, summer at the Lakehouse, and in Florida.
Surviving are her three children Vicki Shipley (Ed) Muncie, IN, Randy Galbreth (Bob Clark), Wilton Manors, FL and Marta Raynaud (Mark)Scotts Valley, CA. Seven Grandchildren: Sharla Kinsey (Mark), Scott Shipley (Amy) Staci Knigga (Ryan) David, John, Jake, and Jessie Raynaud. Two Step Grandchildren: Jeff Clark (Mitzi) and Nicole Clark Papak. Plus nine Great Grandchildren: Lucas, Andrew, and Katie Kinsey, Shaun and Shay Shipley, Noah and Natalie Knigga, Thor Papak, and Larson Clark. Additional survivors are numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a pillar to all her family and to her many friends. She was extremely strong willed individual who was very successful and "I did everything I wanted to do…no regrets"
Following her wishes, Mrs. Galbreth was cremated and her remains will be buried next to her husband at Brown Church Cemetery, Rockfield, IN. Assisting the family with arrangements are, John Paulson, Parish Associate, Faith Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis, IN, Good Earth Crematory, Bradenton, FL and Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi, IN.
Family has requested no memorial flowers; in lieu of, memorials may be made to the Faith Presbyterian Church, 8170 Hague Road, Indianapolis, IN 46256 or a charity of the donors wish.
A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Galbreth will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church, her member church, in Indianapolis, IN on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 12:05 P.M. Family and Friends Fellowship at 11:00 A.M. Committal Service at Brown Church Cemetery at 3:15 P.M.
