Alice J. Vette Christian, 88, of Delphi, passed away Monday-November 18, 2024, at 7:27pm, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi. Alice was born in Chicago, IL, to the late Arnold & Marianne Grimm Vette, on June 16, 1936. She married Burnes George Christian, in Elmhurst, IL, on June 13, 1959, and he preceded her in death on May 21, 2000. Alice graduated from York High School in IL. She received her BS in Home Economics from Southern Illinois University, and her master's degree from the University of Chicago in Education. She taught home ec at York High School for a few years, then moved to Willowbrook High School teaching home ec, and developed a foreign foods class, teaching different cultures based on food, for many years, retiring in 1991. She and her husband moved from Chicago to the Delphi area in 1994. Alice was a very active member and treasurer at the Burrows Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority at S.I.U. She was a founding member of the Rottweiler Club, The Leonberger Dog Club of America, & the Lafayette Kennel Club. She participated in the Liberty Bell Home Ec Club, the Wednesday Forum, the Brown Church Cemetery Association, & the Red Hat Club. Alice was an avid reader and belonged to numerous book clubs over the years, loved to sew, and was an exceptional cook, making many delicious meals for her friends and family. Alice had a very good listening ear. People would seek her out to discuss an issue and wanted her thoughts or advice on the matter. She loved to help anyone in need. Alice's greatest love was for her family. She dearly loved them all and enjoyed any gatherings that would bring them all together. Sharing a meal, laughing and having good conversation sitting around her table. Surviving: son-Craig & Paula Christian of Wichita Falls, TX, granddaughter-Amanda & David Maxwell of Delphi, grandson-Kevin & Larissa Christian of Delphi, granddaughter-Sarah & Colby James, granddaughter-Alissa Christian & Amanda Trevino, great grandchildren: Ian & Isla Maxwell, Payton & Kenley Christian, Charlie-ann, Kori, & Caleb James. Preceded in death by a son Kent Christian, dau-in-law Dianna Christian, and an infant brother. Services: Visitation will be Saturday from 11am until her funeral service at 1pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi, Pastor John Gilbert officiating. Burial at Brown Church Cemetery, rural Carroll County.
